A journal for
life in the north
In the last few years, there's been a concerted effort in Minnesota, particularly in Minneapolis, to rebrand the state as "the North", and shedding its Midwestern identity. As a life-long Minnesotan I've internalized this identity more and more as I've gotten older. What does living in the "North" mean to me? I love the cold, and I love living in a culture that not only tolerates it, but embraces it.
With global warming being our reality, I cherish even more the things that make living Up Here special; not just the cold and the snow, but the seasons. There are so many distinctive moments about the arrival of spring, or a perfect hot summer evening on the lake. There's that really brisk day in September where you have to put on a sweater for the first time since May, or the the feeling of seeing snow flakes falling gently out your window in December.
I live for these moments. I created Northerly as a way to bring people together to share these moments through a beautiful product you can hold in your hands, and I'm glad to have you along for the journey.
